The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revealed that spraying naira notes is an offence punishable by 6 months in jail. Acting Director of the bank’s Currency Operations Department, Priscilla Eleje , revealed this in a public sensitization and enlightenment campaign in Ibadan on Saturday. It’s a crime, she said, one punishable with either the jail term or a fine of ₦50,000 or both. It is a criminal offence punishable by six months imprisonment or a fine of N50,000 or both to sell, spray or mutilate the banknotes. The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has vowed not to return to the Federal High Court in Abuja where he was standing trial before he left the country. The Federal Government had charged him with treason but Justice Binta Nyako granted him bail after 18 months in detention. Kanu had flouted all the terms of the bail before the military invaded his Abia residence on September 14, 2017. He fled afterwards and resurfaced in Jerusalem on Friday.
